The American composer and musician Philip Glass fourth in January his 75th birthday. * SCHUNCK in Heerlen for reason to his birthday to celebrate throughout the year. Time to consider his minimal music.
De Amerikaanse componist en musicus Philip Glass vierde in januari zijn 75e verjaardag. Voor SCHUNCK* in Heerlen reden om zijn verjaardag het hele jaar te vieren. Tijd om eens stil te staan bij zijn minimal music.
Philip Glass, together with Terry Riley, Morton Feldman, Steve Reich and John Adams, one of the founders of minimal music in the sixties of the 20th century. A musical direction that thanks to these Americans is no longer in the contemporary music scene and who also spreading European composers in her wake. Closer to home for our famous names including Simeon Ten Holt and Wim Mertens.
Philip Glass is, samen met Terry Riley, Morton Feldman, Steve Reich en John Adams, een van de grondleggers van de minimal music in de zestiger jaren van de 20e eeuw. Een muziekrichting die dankzij deze Amerikanen niet meer weg te denken is in de hedendaagse music scene en die ook Europese componisten meesleepte in haar kielzog. Dichter bij huis zijn voor ons bekende namen o.a. Simeon Ten Holt en Wim Mertens.
The term minimalist music or minimal music is used to create a music style to indicate with the following characteristics: repetition (often of short musical phrases, with subtle variations over a long time) or halt (often in the form of long sustained tones, an accent on concords consonante (good sounding) and a clear pace. The style is also inherited in pop music, particularly in a number of genres of ambient and experimental rock and in the dance from the 1980s.
De term minimalistische muziek of minimal music wordt gebruikt om een muziekstijl met de volgende kenmerken aan te duiden: herhaling (vaak van korte muzikale frases, met subtiele variaties gedurende een lange tijd) of stilstand (vaak in de vorm van lang aangehouden tonen, een accent op consonante (goed klinkende) samenklanken en een duidelijk tempo.
De stijlvorm is ook overgenomen in de popmuziek, met name in de ambient en een aantal genres van de experimentele rock en in de dance vanaf de jaren '80.
SCHUNCK * programming the minimal music in 2012 at various moments throughout the year, in a wide variation. But also repeatedly returning to the music of Philip Glass. On March 6, we start with a deepening lecture by minimal connoisseur Maarten Beirens, Belg and graduated from the University of Leuven on minimal music.
With PINK explains the Visual art of Kim van Norren this year not coincidentally a link with the minimalist music of Pink Floyd. Contemporary troupes of name and fame as Bl! ndman, Luna park and Ensemble 88 as well as regional musicians dipping SCHUNCK * completely in the minimalscene this year. With the definite highlight a spectacular Minimaldag in late August, about which more details at a later time.
SCHUNCK* programmeert de minimal music in 2012 op diverse momenten door het jaar heen, in een brede variatie. Maar steeds weer ook terugkomend op de muziek van Philip Glass. Op 6 maart starten we met een verdiepende lezing door minimalkenner bij uitstek Maarten Beirens, Belg en afgestudeerd aan de Universiteit van Leuven op minimal music.
Met PINK legt de beeldende kunst van Kim van Norren dit jaar niet toevallig een link met de minimalistische muziek van Pink Floyd. Hedendaagse gezelschappen van naam en faam als Bl!ndman, Lunapark en Ensemble 88 alsmede regionale musici dompelen SCHUNCK* dit jaar helemaal in de minimalscene. Met als absoluut hoogtepunt een spectaculaire Minimaldag eind augustus, waarover op een later moment meer details.
