A minimal music spectacle as night has fallen on the Bongerd. The Belgian music collective Bl!ndman will always guarantee a surprising musical performances. Contemporary or classic, sometimes interwoven, for Eric Sleichim and creatives no challenge is too big. For this evening the music of Philip Glass will be turned upside down and inside out. Literally! Accompanied by a large horn orchestra from the region under the leadership of Ron Daelemans, cellist Marie-Jose Didderen and klokkenspel Frank Steijns try not to loose count!
Een minimal music spektakel als de avond is gevallen op de Bongerd. Het Belgische muziekcollectief Bl!ndman staat altijd garant voor verrassende muzikale uitvoeringen. Hedendaags of klassiek, soms met elkaar verweven, Eric Sleichim en zijn creatievelingen gaan geen uitdaging uit de weg. Zo ook vanavond wanneer de repetatieve minimal muziek van Philip Glass binnenste buiten wordt gekeerd. Letterlijk! Begeleid door een groot blaasorkest uit de regio onder leiding van Ron Daelemans, de Heerlense carillonneur Frank Steijns en celliste Marie-Jose Didderen trachten alle muzikanten vooral niet de tel kwijt te raken!


The American composer and musician Philip Glass celebrated his 75th birthday in January. For SCHUNCK* in Heerlen reason to celebrate his birthday throughout the year. Also time to pay more attention to his minimal music.
Philip Glass along with Terry Riley, Morton Feldman, Steve Reich and John Adams is one of the founders of minimal music in the sixties of the 20th century. Thanks to these Americans this musical direction will always be associated with the contemporary music scene dragging European composers along with them such as Simeon Ten Holt and Wim Mertens.
The term minimalist music or minimal music is used to create a music style which has the following characteristics: repetition (often of short musical phrases with subtle variations over a long timespan) or stillness (often in the form of long sustained tones, an accent on harmony and a clear pace). The style is also inherited in pop music, particularly in a number of genres like ambient and experimental rock and in dance from the eighties.
SCHUNCK* presents minimal music in 2012 at various moments throughout the year in a wide variety. But always referring to the music of Philip Glass.
De Amerikaanse componist en musicus Philip Glass vierde in januari zijn 75e verjaardag. Voor SCHUNCK* in Heerlen reden om zijn verjaardag het hele jaar te vieren. Tijd ook om eens stil te staan bij zijn minimal music. Philip Glass is, samen met o.a. Terry Riley, Morton Feldman, Steve Reich en John Adams, een van de grondleggers van de minimal music in de zestiger jaren
van de 20e eeuw. Een muziekrichting die dankzij deze Amerikanen niet meer weg te denken is in de hedendaagse music scene en die ook Europese componisten meesleepte in haar kielzog. Korter bij huis zijn voor ons bekende namen o.a. Simeon Ten Holt en Wim Mertens. De term minimalistische muziek of minimal music wordt gebruikt om een muziekstijl met de volgende kenmerken aan te duiden: herhaling (vaak van korte muzikale frases met subtiele variaties gedurende een lange tijd) of stilstand (vaak in de vorm van lang aangehouden tonen, een accent op consonante samenklanken en een duidelijk tempo). De stijlvorm is ook overgenomen in de popmuziek, met name in de ambient en een aantal genres van de experimentele rock en in de dance vanaf de jaren '80. SCHUNCK* programmeert minimal music in 2012 op diverse momenten door het jaar heen in een brede variatie. Maar steeds weer refererend naar de muziek van Philip Glass.
