O Yuki
Conjugate is a post
industrial/ambient musical
group founded in 1982 in
Nottingham by Roger Horberry
and Andrew Hulme. Their music
has been variously described
as ambient, fourth world,
ethnic, tribal and darkwave.
In truth it is none of these
and the band prefer to call it
'dirty ambient'. They are
currently in their fourth
incarnation based around the
core members Hulme and
Horberry, assisted by Rob
Jenkins.
Their approach is eclectic but
always atmospheric, they play
electronics but also found
instruments. Their music was
inspired by the spirit of
post-punk but moved into
ambient, pioneering their own
brand throughout the 80's when
no one else was interested in
it. Their debut album 'Scene
In Mirage' (1984) perfectly
encapuslated their position;
one half was beat driven and
'electronic', the other
'organic' and made of ambient
soundscapes.
They have released few
recordings over their 35 year
history, often going into
periods of hibernation only to
emerge with a new line up.
They call their approach
'wilfully obscure'.

Conjugate is een

groep die in 1982 in

is afwisselend beschreven

darkwave. In werkelijkheid
is het geen van deze en de
band noemt het liever

bevinden zich momenteel in
hun vierde incarnatie
gebaseerd op de kernleden
Hulme en Horberry,
bijgestaan door Rob
Jenkins.
Hun aanpak is eclectisch
maar altijd atmosferisch,
ze spelen elektronica,
maar ook 'gevonden'
instrumenten. Hun muziek
was geïnspireerd door de
geest van post-punk, maar
bewoog zich naar ambient,
pionierde in de jaren '80
met hun eigen stijl,
terwijl niemand anders
erin geïnteresseerd was.

thanks to the
typical use of
layered sounds
which is both
intense and
subtle; the
listener is
carried along
in a sonic
space similar
to the sea,
where Core
Shifts sound
can be
compared as
currents that
blend and
alter. Added
pulsating
rhythms
complete the
sound to be
described as
'Dance for the
mind'.
Mike
Kramer is a
sound and
recording
artist. His
work invites
listeners to
get intimate
with the
sounds
presented,
using Field
Recordings
combined with
electronic
composition as
a working
method. Mike
also produces
more noisy
Ambient/Techno
as CS²,
creates Sound
Installations
and is known
for being the
initiator and
artistic
director of
(h)ear -
experimental
audio
research.
This
edition Core
Shift will
present brand
new work which
will be
released on CS
Music soon.

De muziek
wordt
gekenmerkt
door het
typische
gebruik van
gelaagdheid in
geluiden die
zowel intens
als subtiel
zijn; de
luisteraar
wordt zo
meegevoerd in
een sonische
ruimte
vergelijkbaar
met de zee,
waar het 'Core
Shift geluid'
kan worden
vergeleken met
stromingen die
zich vermengen
en daardoor
constant
veranderen. De
vaak
toegevoegde
pulserende
ritmes
completeren
het geluid dat
beschreven
wordt als

Mind'.
Mike Kramer is
geluidskunstenaar
en producer.
Zijn werk
nodigt
luisteraars
uit om intiem
te worden met
de
gepresenteerde
geluiden,
bestaande uit

Recordings in

Festival in

is co-produced
with the
National Radio
WDR 3.
He
collaborates
closely with
German
electronic
music pioneer
Asmus
Tietchens,
publishing the
first
comprehensive
monography
about the
composer’s
work.
